You should treat your château like your middle child because it needs tender loving care and encouragement if it’s going to get anywhere in life. You can’t just stencil the walls with inspirational quotes and “Live, Laugh, Love” banners, because she will rebel and do PCP and crack and fall apart. A crumbling, comatose château is a total tragedy.
Love your chateau the right way. I have a blue room. It’s gorgeously blue. But also a bit cold and scary because of that gorilla head that I begged Pepito to get rid of. Well, loves, do you know what looks fabulous with blue? Brass. It’s timeless and totally back. Don’t worry, it won’t make your room look like a scene out of The Golden Girls unless you carpet your bathroom and put in floor-to-ceiling mirrors, which actually sounds kind of fun. This morning, I sent Pepito out to Cours Mirabeau and told him to scoop up every brass thing he could find. After I made love to him for three hours, I thought I’d show you his best find. These stunning, hand-cast magnifying glasses. What could be better next to a first edition of L’Etranger than a trio of these things? Perfect. Who cares if they’re only decor? Form over function. I got Lasik years ago and still wear fabulous glasses.
I placed them on top of a few dusty novels and threw in some peacock feathers because they’re iridescent and feathers go with everything. Perfect scene complete.
Bisous,
M.
Brass is so warm and beautiful. For years, I have been waiting for it’s comeback. Stainless makes me shiver. So happy we can revel in it’s glowing beauty again.

February 7, 2015 at 12:37 pmWhat about hammocks? Are those okay? Am I ruining my daughter with a hammock in her bedroom?
February 7, 2015 at 1:21 pmCharlotte, likely. Hammocks are for trees. Bedrooms are for beds. Sorry, but you need to hear the truth. And get rid of that chalkboard wall while you’re at it. Don’t worry, I still love you.

February 7, 2015 at 2:00 pmJust you wait, Deb! More naughty than nice, but he’s obsessed with taking pictures of his trove of treasure.

February 7, 2015 at 2:57 pmHe is my secret lover from another era. Love that novel.
February 7, 2015 at 3:10 pmBrass is the new black, apparently.
February 7, 2015 at 3:24 pmBrass and black looks FABULOUS together. Perfect combo!
February 7, 2015 at 3:45 pmSort of over feathers and glitter. Like this new trend of austere, utilitarianism. Too much preen makes a space look silly.
February 7, 2015 at 4:12 pmYES! Concrete countertops. Pepito is installing as we speak.
